Common for a prize figure to have broken parts upon transit or shipment because of a cheap packaging they do specially with Banpresto Prize figures. Today I made this little tutorial on how I fix a broken figure. Here are the tools I used for this tutorial:
1. Cutter for Metal
2. Metal Rod
3. Hand Drill
4. Broken figure
5. Super Glue
Note: Make sure that the size of your Metal Rod is the same with your Drill or vice versa.
First is to drill a hole on the lower part of the broken figure. |
Next is the upper part of the broken figure. Make sure that the holes you are making is aligned for both parts. |
Get your Metal rod and check how deep is your hole. It should be at least half a centimeter just to make a good foundation when glueing it. |
If you have measured the holes on both sides. Cut your Metal rod exactly how deep are the both holes. |
Apply a super glue on the hole, at least a few drops will do. |
Next, stick the Metal rod you cut earlier. Let it dry for a bit before doing the other half. |
Now, put super glue on the other half about a few drops too. And put the other part and fix it in the proper place and position. |
You can let it stand to check whether it is unbalanced so you can still fix it while the super glue is still wet. |
Now you can set it on the base so the connecting parts will have a good and tight bond to each other and it will stay what it should be when placed on the base. |
You are lucky if you'll only get a broken part like this that is hidden under the jeans or clothing of the figure that is not visible when in standing pose. |
After an hour of drying, the connection of the both parts is pretty hard and steady. I just want to point out some important things when doing this fix. A hand drill needs a lot of time and patience when making the hole because PVC is kinda hard to drill. If you have an electric drill, you can use that but it is a bit risky because you might overdo the drilling and make the PVC crack all the way. Next is be careful when using Super Glue, it might spill and it will totally ruin the color of your figure.
Though this process is not that necessary if you only want to fix the broken parts of your figure. A simple glueing will do but that process might still fail after a long time if you accidentally force those parts and make tension on the glued section and it will break again. Applying the support rod will make it more sturdy and pretty hard to be broken again. More likely for real people, this is what we called bone transplant ^_^. And that concludes my tutorial. That's it for now. Thanks for your time.
